Postbus Saurer L4C - ‘Alpenwagen III’
Ordered in 1948, the Postbus was put into service three years (!) later in March 1951. The Postbus was initially a scheduled coach in Meiringen, where it was used on the famous three-pass journey (Grimsel, Furka, Susten). Later stationed mainly in Valais, the coach ended its PTT career in Romont (FR).
In 1969, the Postbus was sold to the construction company SATEG in Lausanne and used to transport labourers. It was then cleared out inside and served as a timing office on the Lignières (NE) circuit.
It was completely restored at the end of the 1980s and has been used for classic car journeys ever since. The luggage compartment was reduced in size and the number of passenger seats increased from 29 to 34. The interior was restored by Ramseier+Jenzer - a company that had been manufacturing postbus bodies and interiors for decades.
